Badge of Honor

0 523ccBy George L. Nitti

Towers often build and maintain long-term relationships with the local police department, as they often work side by side on the road or as part of a police rotation that requires frequent interaction. Dave's Hi-Way Wrecker Service of Grand Prairie, Texas, takes pride in the special relationship they have developed with their local police department.

Dave's Hi-Way designed and wrapped their 2016 Western Star twin-steer/ Custom Built CBR40/50 rotator honoring Officer Lyndon F. King and Sgt. Gregory L. Hunter of Grand Prairie's police department.

"We have had a long-standing relationship with Grand Prairie's Police Department," Manager Tony Huff said, "and wanted to pay tribute to their fallen first responders. One of the officers was killed on the side of the highway and the other in a shootout."

The tribute includes several captivating designs. A large police badge is seen on both sides of the unit distinguishing the Grand Prairie Police Department while honoring each of the officers.

On one side, King is honored within the badge, marking his official end of watch date. Hunter is given the same acknowledgement on the opposite side.

"We contemplated many, many designs for over a year," Huff said, "and probably went through more than a thousand different scenarios. Everybody was eager to help us, but we finally turned to Car Wrap City's Tyson Summers. The wrap came out very beautiful."

On the hood of the truck, another large and iconic image stands out: The Towman Monument, depicting the heroics of a towman rescuing a crash victim.

The design is further accentuated with large stars of the American flag and a texture of spiked metal across the entire unit, while the thin blue line flag flows down the side of the truck. Both names of the officers are written large on the boom of the rotator.

"We named the truck after them," Huff said. "Every year the police department has a memorial service to the officers. The city tries to keep the memory going, and we wanted to keep that going as well."
