Shining Like an Orange Sun

Sports teams distinguish themselves through colors, becoming easily identifiable to spectators—fan and foe alike. Tow companies can stand out for their colors too, creating instant recognition and brand loyalty.

At Bud's Towing and Recovery in Cortland, Ohio, the orange and white color scheme of their fleet has had a powerful and lasting impact and become easily identifiable throughout their community.

Their orange and white 2003 Ford F-650/Chevron 1014 is a case in point.

The vehicle is driven by company owner Bud Rodgers, who started the family-owned and operated business in 1989.

"At that time, I was motivated by the colors of my high school football team, which were orange and black," Rodgers said. "I always liked orange and so went with that."

On this vehicle, the orange stands out like a captivating sunset, creating warmth, vibrancy and memorability.

Orange accentuates other places on the unit like the checkered flags arranged around the bottom of the unit, the company name, its pinstriping and the orange Chevron unit, all against the unit's white body.

"Everybody knew my name in high school," Rodgers said. "We graduated with over 800 students. And my father was a fireman in town for over 50 years."

On the back of the unit, above the orange stripe behind the tire, is the slogan, "Stuck in the mud, call Bud."

"That slogan just came out of my head," Rodgers said. "We have a lot of fields and farming where we are in Ohio. We do a lot of that kind of work."

Like the names of racehorses, each of Bud's trucks also comes with its own name such as "Next Available," "Hustling Hillbilly," "Country Class" and this featured unit, "White Lightning."

Rodgers said, "I came up with 'White Lightning' in hopes that our business would take off."

Like a hope fulfilled, Bud's fleet shines.
