Towers are required by law to comply with towing and transport tie-down processes. In his photo-seminar, “Towing and Transport Tie-Down Compliance,” American Towman Operations Editor Randall Resch discusses methods and techniques commonly used by today’s tow truck operators that creatively comply with or constantly violate the law. This Towing & Recovery Conference seminar will take place at Tow Expo-Dallas, August 16-18, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Conventions Center in Dallas, Texas.

Motivating Machinery

0 68fa2By George L. Nitti

One of the challenges of any tow company is to keep employee morale high.

According to Shank's Towing manager Gerald Ferris, "Sometimes slow days bring people down."

At Shank's Towing, which has four locations in Fredericksburg, Virginia, their 2017 Hino with a 22' Century flatbed symbolizes the company's commitment to keeping their employees motivated.

The key symbol on this unit comes in the form of several graphics comprising gears, wheels and other sprockets set in motion, as if one was looking inside of a watch or time machine.

This imagery extends from the side door up through and onto the hood of the vehicle.

"The design is supposed to look like the inside of a machine," Ferris said. "My boss Chris is always telling us to keep things rolling and moving along. From the business standpoint, he is trying to keep everybody motivated. He likes to boost and build us up."

The wrap, done by Illusion Wraps of Fredericksburg, has a large purple Superman logo overlaid on the side door. It rests upon some of the graphics, which protrude out through the design as the purple contrasts against the silver mechanical components.

The Superman graphic depicts a company image that is not only moving, but is capable of doing great feats like towmen who are often doing heroic acts. The company name is written in a strong metallic font.

Ferris said, "The design of our trucks are all different. Once we use a design, we don't use it again."
